This hiking pole, is carved from a young birch tree.  cut near Drammen (Norway) in the summer of 2011.
The birch tree is a great wood to carv a hiking pole from, and this one with a guy on the head holds a small bottle of German Schnaps as a reserve strength when the going gets tough.
By the way, did you know that  birch bark contains some great, valuable metabolic substances? Look HERE for more on that.
To bad the peeled of bark was thrown away!
